Joke Of The Day

New pilot
Taxiing down the runway, the passenger jet abruptly came to a stop, turned around and returned to the gate. Eventually however, after an hour-long wait, the flight finally took off.
A concerned passenger asked the flight attendant, "What was the problem?" "The pilot was bothered by a noise he heard in the engine," explained the Flight Attendant.“I hope it’s all sorted now.” Replied the nervous passenger."Oh yes, it’s fine now Sir, it just took us a while to find a new pilot."

Joke Of The day

Know Who I Am?

It was the final examination for an introductory English course at the local university. The examination was two hours long, and exam booklets were provided. The professor was very strict and told the class that any exam that was not on his desk in exactly two hours would not be accepted and the student would fail. A half hour into the exam, a student came rushing in and asked the professor for an exam booklet.
"You're not going to have time to finish this," the professor stated sarcastically as he handed the student a booklet. "Yes I will," replied the student. He then took a seat and began writing. After two hours, the professor called for the exams, and the students filed up and handed them in. All except the late student, who continued writing.
A half hour later, the last student came up to the professor who was sitting at his desk preparing for his next class. He attempted to put his exam on the stack of exam booklets already there. "No you don't, I'm not going to accept that. It's late." The student looked incredulous and angry.
"Do you know WHO I am?" "No, as a matter of fact I don't," replied the professor. "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" the student asked again. "No, and I don't care." replied the professor with an air of superiority. "Good," replied the student, who quickly lifted the stack of completed exams, stuffed his in the middle, and walked out of the room.

Joke Of The Day

Train Ride

A WW II American soldier had been on the front lines in Europe for three months, when he was finally given a week of R&R. He caught a supplyboat to a supply base in the south of England, then caught a train to London. The train was extremely crowded and he could not find a seat. He was dead on his feet and walked the length of the train looking for any place to sit down.
Finally he found a compartment with seats facing each other; there was room for two people on each seat. On one side sat only a proper looking, older British lady, with a small dog sitting in the empty seat beside her. "Could I please sit in that seat" he asked.
The lady was insulted. "You Americans are so rude." she said, "Cant you see my dog is sitting there?" He walked through the train more and still could not find a seat. He found himself back at the same place. "Lady, I love dogs - have a couple at home- so I would be glad to hold your dog if I can sit down." he said.
The lady replied "You Americans are not only rude, you are arrogant." He leaned against the wall for a time, but was so tired he finally said "Lady, Ive been on the front lines in Europe for three months with not a decent rest for all that time. Could I please sit there and hold your dog? "The lady replied "You Americans are not only rude and arrogant. You are also obnoxious." With that comment, the soldier calmly stepped in, picked up the dog, threw it out the window, and sat down.
The lady was speechless. An older, neatly dressed Englishman sitting across on the other seat spoke up.
"Young man, I do not know if all you Americans fit the ladys description of you or not. But I do know that you Americans do a lot of things wrong. You drive on the wrong side of the road, you hold your fork with the wrong hand, and now you have just thrown the wrong bitch out of the window."

Standard kit:

Handset
НHPM-70 headphones, stereo, 3.5mm jack
BST-33 battery
User Manual
CD with software
USB-cable
MemoryStick M2 64mb memory card, MS Duo Pro adapter

The phone has Li-Polymer battery named BST-33 with 900 mAh capacity, it becomes standard for all recent models including inexpensive ones. According to the manufacturer the phone can work for up to 350 hours in stand by mode and up to 2.5 hours during phone calls in UMTS network (only for K800), and up to 7.5 hours during phone calls in GSM-network.

Camera’s module is 3.2mpx, it is made by CMOS-technology. Only 4 resolutions are supported – 3MP, 2MP, 1MP, VGA. The phone does not show the actual physical resolution of the shot, only such abbreviations. The information about the resolution of the photo can be acquired while you are in the viewing mode of it, just access the context menu. The resolutions are as follows: 2048x1536, 1632x1224, 1280x960, 640x480 pixels. The phone’s processor works quite fast, that’s why you can safely choose high resolutions even for photos to be stored for contacts

Entertainment.
Photos, music files can be accessed from this menu. MusicDJ function is rather interesting, even though it is a niche product and there is not much of a chance that this feature will be in high demand by users. In the editor you can create and edit ring tones, up to four tracks

Games
The phone has three games: Extreme Air Snowboard (winter sports, snowboarding to be precise), Gauntlet Multiply (logical game), WormsForts3D (legendary game that is loved by majority, even though it is not yet adapted for high resolution).

Connectivity.
All communicative settings for the phone can be setup from here, starting from WAP and GPRS (the EDGE settings are same) and ending up with Bluetooth and Synchronization. I will not describe the standard options, they are standard in the first place, everything works fine. I’d like to highlight stable Bluetooth work, no problems were encountered, synchronization with other devices runs smoothly, all profiles (including A2DP, which is stereo sound via Bluetooth) are supported. Bluetooth version is 2.0 with EDR support.

Then she lit up a candle, and she showed me the way

Em F#

(2)What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise) bring your alibis

Her mind is Tiffany twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain; "Please bring me my wine."
"We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty-nine"
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night, just to hear them say

CHORUS (with ending 2)

Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice
And she said "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device"
And in the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
"Relax" said the nightman, "We are programmed to receive"
"You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave"

Nokia N93 - 3.2 MP camera possibilities

Nokia N93 - 3.2 MP camera possibilities

Carl Zeiss Optics: Vario-Tessar glass lens
Matrix, 4.5х5.5 мм, CMOS, 3.2 megapixel (2048x1536)

Shutter speed: Mechanical shutter: 1/2400~1/3 s
Macro focus distance 30 cm (macro @ Wide) 10 cm (macro @ Middle to Tele)
Focus range 10 cm ~ infinity
Focal length 4.5 mm (Wide) /12.4 mm (Tele) 34.25 - 94.1 mm(35mm equiv.)
Still image file format: JPEG/EXIF
Auto focus

White balance: automatic, sunny, cloudy, incandescent, fluorescent
Exposure compensation: +1 ~ -1EV at 0.5 step

Scene: automatic, user, close-up, landscape, night, night portray

Color tone: normal, sepia, black & white, negative
Zoom (optical/digital) 3x / up to 20x

Optical Zoom. During shooting you can easily rotate ring around shutter, it can be easily done with your thumb. Zoom works similarly to digital cameras, you can see green line, it displays how optical zoom is used right now. Zoom itself is very good, picture remains sharp, there are no artifacts like ones you get when you are using digital zoom, this is a great advantage for this handset.

Video

Handset is capable of recording video in several quality modes, maximal one assumes 30 fps @ 640x480 (VGA) resolution. You can downgrade frame rate to 15 or decrease resolution. Format in which video is recorded – mpeg4, simultaneous sound recording is supported too (two channels, AAC, 48khz). There are two mics on case, each has index (R or L, which stands for Right and Left). By default video is saved on memory card; however you can use internal memory too, but it’s enough only for one minute and some seconds. Maximal length is 60 minutes. During shooting you can use optical or digital zoom (x8 in this mode). Optical stabilizer is used during shooting, this allows preventing small shaking of handset. I got the impression that this feature works fine, you do not feel shaking feeling that you might get when you shoot the video for quite a while. You can disable sound in case you do not need it.

There’s also White Balance settings, as well as various color effects, just like in camera. Scene selection is limited by two: Auto and Night Mode.
Impressive? I believe that this is maximum what mobile phones will be capable of today and in nearest future, there won’t be any more settings. Before moving on to sample photos, I’d like to tell you that viewfinder is displaying picture correctly, as is, without any artifacts or any disturbances caused by rapid movements. Buttons located on left side are used for accessing additional shooting settings

Conclusion
It’s not hard to see that Nokia N93 camera quality is a lot better than one installed in Nokia N80, and by some aspects better than in Sony Ericsson K790i. More details, brighter photos, sharpness. All this became possible with help of standard camera module, instead of mobile one. Camera in Nokia N93 overcomes any existing camera installed in mobile phone to date.
We can’t really say that Nokia N93 is a mobile device, since it’s quite big after all. It can try being competitive with small digital cameras, but here it loses battle in terms of price and size. You should remember that this is a hybrid device and give some discount on that. Let me remind you that main idea told in first part of our review. This device is targeted for people who are in need of such features, this is not a mass product. This product is used by Nokia to test out new technologies and solutions. Used components allow creating similar phones with smaller case size which is proven by Nokia N73, Nokia N83. Raise of devices with increasing camera possibilities raises challenge for inexpensive small digital cameras, competition gets tougher and things are getting more and more interesting.

Difference between NiMH and Li-Ion batteries

Difference between NiMH and Li-Ion batteries

NiMH stands for 'Nickel Metal Hydride' and Li-Ion means 'Lithium Ion'. Nickel is a metal related to Iron and is quite dense while Lithium is the lightest metal. For the same energy storage capacity, a NiMH battery will be smaller than a LiIon battery but the LiIon battery will weigh less. Although they cost about the same. For most users weight is more important than size, and because the weight difference is quite drastic, generally LiIon batteries are considered better.
Also, NiMH batteries do suffer from 'memory effect' ( although NiCad batteries were much more subject to this). This means that it's necessary to fully discharge the battery before charging it again. If you routinely recharge a NiMH battery after only partially discharging it, the battery will 'learn' that point and not have as much energy storage capacity. Li-Ion batteries are almost wholly immune to this and with a Li-Ion battery you can recharge any time you want without harming the battery. However, when a Li-Ion battery is new, you should always fully charge it before using it the first time, and it's good to let it fully discharge once or twice. This conditions the battery and gives it maximum energy storage capacity and maximum life.

What is Bluetooth

What is Bluetooth ?

Bluetooth is the name given to a new technology that uses a short range (10 meter) frequency-hopping radio link to connect two electronic devices.
If we look around in our office or home, we find that we are using so many electronic devices which are all connected with power supplies or to each other through cables. For example, just have a look at the back of your computer, you will find a big mesh of wires connecting CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer etc. with each other. Bluetooth is intended to replace these cables connecting portable and/or fixed electronic devices. This technology was initially conceived by Ericsson and then was adopted by many other companies.
Bluetooth is a standard for a small, cheap radio chip that can be plugged into any electronic device like computers, printers, mobile phones, etc. The chip is designed to replace cables by taking the information generally carried by the cable and transmitting it at a special frequency to a receiver Bluetooth chip, which then gives the information received to the respective electronic device. The electronic devices having this chip are called Bluetooth - enabled.
The main advantages of this technology are its robustness, low complexity, low power and low cost. It can operate in noisy frequency environments too. The Bluetooth radio uses a fast acknowledgement and frequency hopping scheme to make the link robust. Bluetooth radio modules operate in unlicensed ISM band at 2.4GHz, and avoid interference from other signals by hopping to a new frequency after transmitting or receiving a packet. The Bluetooth wireless technology comprises hardware, software and interoperability requirements. It facilitates both data and voice communication. Mobile phone manufacturers were fast to adopt the technology as it makes communication between two mobile handsets fast and easy without using the service network.

With a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, you can -
~ use a Bluetooth enabled handsfree headset to communicate with the mobile phone in your pocket, or even in the other room.
~ Transfer files to/from a compatible PC over a local Bluetooth wireless connection ~ Play wireless multiplayer games over a Bluetooth connection
~ Trasfer files, ringtones, applications etc. between two Bluetooth enabled handsets directly.

Memory Cards

Memory Cards

Cellphones are increasingly taking up the functions of a computer for checking e-mails and office documents, browsing internet and playing games. Also they are being used for listening to music, watching video clips, taking pictures etc. So one thing that is becoming very important is the size of its memory. Internal memory available on a mobile phone varies from 5MB to 128MB. But this is not sufficient for handling multimedia files like music, pictures and video. That is why seperate Memory Cards are needed.
Most of the advanced cellphones these days come with a Memory Slot where you can insert the extra Memory Card. This memory slot is sometimes hidden under the battery, so you have to switch off the cellphone, remove the battery and then insert the memory card. Some manufacturers have eased out this problem by providing the memory slot on the side of the handset with a small cover. So inserting and removing memory cards has become as easy as you change floppy in a computer.

Things to be kept in mind while purchasing an extra memory card:

1. Compatibility with your handset. The popular memory cards used in cellphones are SD (Secure Digital), MMC (Multi Media Card) and Memory Stick Pro. Nokia uses MMC or RS DV MMC (Reduced Size Dual Voltage MultiMediaCard) while SonyEricsson uses its proprietary memory stick. Most of the other brands like Motorola, Panasonic, Sagem, O2, I-mate etc use SD cards.
2. The storage capacity. It depends upon what capacity your handset can handle. Some phones do not support higher capacity cards. Memory cards come in capacities like 128MB, 256MB or 512MB etc. More capacity means higher price.
3. Always buy these cards from direct company showrooms or authorised dealers only as there are lots of spurious memory cards in the market which can be cheaper but you may get cheated as the failure rate of these cards is very high and there is no guarantee of its actual capacity.
You can use many memory cards if your requirement for capacity is more.

Internet on mobile

Internet on mobile

To access internet on your mobile, your handset should be WAP/GPRS compatible and your service provider must also be offering these services.
Most of the handsets are able to access the information from the web in text only format. Although some handsets are supporting HTML also. In case of WAP and xHTML browser you get text only or a limited version of the website you want to visit. Most of the service providers who are offering GPRS services have compiled such websites into various categories and provide their link through a default menu. Although if your handset is equipped with HTML browser you can view any website as it is, along with graphics as you see on the PC. Only difference is that you may feel that the entire website has been squeezed into a bottle because the screen of cellphone is small.
EDGE enabled cellphones offer mobile broadband access with very high upload and download speeds. The speed is at least three times faster than normal GPRS. But check whether your service provider is offering the same.
GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) also known as GSM-IP (Internet Protocol) is a technology that allows you to access internet from your GPRS compatible cellphone. It enables a host of datacom services such as wireless Internet / intranet and multimedia services. One of the main benefits of this packet-switched technology is that the user gets connected directly to Internet service provider and stays connected at high speed, always on-line, and may be charged only for the amount of data that is transported. Voice calls or SMS can be received simultaneously while a data connection is operating.
The services offered are many like read e-mails, get the latest on stocks, weather, news, etc. or even chat while on the go. Click photographs if your handset has the camera and send them to your friends and family. You can also use your GPRS enabled cellular phone as a modem to access the internet from a Laptop or PDA. The requirement would be an Infrared port or any other port through which you can achieve connectivity between your handset and the other device and the specific driver needs to be installed.

Smart phones

Smart phones

In India, people in comparitively mature markets like the metros, are now upgrading their cellphones. So what are they buying ? Apart from voice calls, cellphones have taken up the functions of many pleasure related functions like radio, music player and the camera. These are definately the sort after features while upgrading. The latest in the list are the smart phone features like the internet connectivity, e-mailing and messaging options, connectivity with other devices, storage capacity, efficient operating system, applications etc.
Companies are constantly innovating their products to give more power in the hand of consumers and thereby capturing a major market share.

The smart phone features available in these devices are:

Internet browsing: You can browse internet through your cellphone if your handset is GPRS / WAP compatible and your service provider is also offering these services. In case of WAP and xHTML browser you get text only or a limited version of the website you want to visit while if your handset is equipped with HTML browser you can view the whole website as it is, along with graphics as you see on the PC.

E-mail:

If you are able to browse internet, ie. you have activated GPRS on your cellphone, you can easily check your web-based mail boxes like that of rediff, yahoo, hotmail etc. To see your official mail account, if it is not web-based, and you generally see it using e-mail clients like outlook express etc., then you will have to use the e-mail client available on your handset, which should be compatible and have to be configured to be able to send and receive e-mails.
You can also receive emails with attachments, which can be opened in the phone itself. Many smart phones have the capability to open Office documents in the form of Word, Worksheet, PowerPoint, PDF formats and even ZIP files along with the multimedia formats like JPEG, GIF, MP3, AAC or 3GP etc. The Email box supports SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 protocols.

More:

Some advance handsets also offer features like - Browsing over TCP/IP - SyncML - Smart content download - OMA DRM 1.0 - OTA provisioning - Mobile wallet
Offline:
Many cellphones give you an option to work offline with GSM module turned-off.
Connectivity:
USB port, Infrared interface and Bluetooth are the common connectivity options available to communicate between cellphone to cellphone and cellphone to PC.
Bluetooth is a wireless technology that enables your bluetooth enabled cellphone to communicate with any other bluetooth enabled device, be it a TV, Refrigerator, washing machine or another bluetooth enabled cellphone. - You can talk handsfree with a wireless Bluetooth headset enhancement - You can play wireless multiplayer games over a Bluetooth connection - It enables you to remotely control other bluetooth enabled devices

Push to Talk:

Many handsets today offer a dedicated key for Push to Talk over cellular network. Push to Talk is a two-way communication service that works like a "walkie talkie".

Operating Systems:

The OS generally used in latest smart phones are Symbian OS version 7.0, Series 60 SE UI or the Microsoft Windows Mobile OS.
The common PIM functions include the Calendar, Task organizer, Notes, Calculator, Converter, Clock, Alarm and the wallet etc.

Memory:

Apart from having reasonably good internal storage memory, these handsets provide external memory card slot where you can insert a 32MB memory card and use as many of them as required. These are generally RS DV MMC type (Reduced Size Dual Voltage MultiMedia Card).

Messaging:

As far as messaging is concerned, most of the smart phones are laoded with T9 predictive text input for quick text insertion while writing SMS, MMS, emails or instant messaging. The size of the pictures inserted into the multimedia messages, can be automatically reduced to the one suitable for MMS. Suitable templates can be used to design your own MMS. Check precisely the availability of the features that you want to use before purchasing your next handset.

Video Recording Tips For Cell Phones

Video Recording

After still photography using a camera phone, it is the video recording feature of cellular phones that is catching the users' fantasy.
Many top of the line cellular phones boast of their video playing and video recording capabilities. These models are with integrated digital camera and video recorder with digital zoom. They are capable of recording 4 min to 1 hr of video clips. The formats supported are RealVideo, MPEG4 and H.263. Feature of 3GPP video streaming and video capture is also available.
Most of these cellular phones have large 65K color displays. Video recorders with 2x to 6x variable digital zoom are available. They support QCIF (176 x 144 pixels) and sub QCIF (128 x 96 pixels) sizes. Cellular phones with larger display, better resolution cameras and bigger memory are prefered. Most of these handsets can be connected to the PCs using blue tooth (wireless ) or data cable where one can edit the captured video clips and can share the same with friends, colleagues etc.

Camera Tips For Your Cell Phone

Camera Phones

Buy a phone that is easy to use.
You should be able to shoot, add text or a voice message and send.
• Check with customer care of your cellular service provider whether network supports sending and receiving picture messages.
• Find out the price-per-picture. How much does it cost to send and receive picture messages? Some operators offer unlimited picture messages sent for a monthly price other may charge per message. Also find out about the additional charges if any.
• Can same message be sent to multiple people without being charged each time? Enquire as it is network dependent

How to get good pictures:

• Keep your lens clean. Camera phone lenses are quite small so any grease or dirt will affect the clarity of your photo. Soft lens cloths can be purchased from opticians and camera shops. Buy a case to protect your phone when it’s in your pocket or in your bag.
• Most camera phones offer various image resolution settings. If the image is for sending to another phone or just storing on your phone, then use a lower resolution setting as it minimises the file size.

• But if you wish to save the image to download it to your PC, use the highest resolution setting. This will enable you to maximise the image quality and enlarge it with better results.

• Hold the camera as steadily as you can. Just like ordinary cameras, camera phone pictures will suffer from camera shake and may affect the sharpness.

Memories:

• Storage capacity need to be checked before buying. Memories on most phones fill up quickly, so it is also important to transfer the images you would like to store in your computer as quickly as possible to keep the memory of phone available for future shooting.

• If your camera phone doesn’t have infra red or Bluetooth, you can always send the photos to your email address using MMS, then delete the photos from your phone. This will ensure that you always have enough space free for other pictures.

Lighting:

• Camera phone gives better images when the subject is well lit. Some camera phones do have a built in flash, so use it if you aren’t in a well-lit situation.

• Strong back lighting has a tendency to trick the camera phone into underexposing the subject. For best results stand with the light behind you and not the subject.

Composition:

• Framing your Shot - The most important thing is to fill the frame with your subject as much as possible, especially with portraits. Images taken on a camera phone are small, so if you want to get a better result then crop your subject as tight as you possibly can.

• Get close - Most camera phones don't have telephoto lenses so if you take a photo of a person or building that's far away, the main subject will be tiny. For most photos you'll get a much better shot by filling your phone's screen with a close up of the subject. But beware getting too close may result in distortion like an extra large nose etc. Some of the camera phones offer a macro facility, which ensures sharpness when capturing close ups.

• Many camera phones offer special effects, such as changing a color photo to black and white or sepia, as well as adding colorful borders and frames around the photo.

Keep track of your battery. Camera phones use lots of power. With their internal and external color screens, animations, polyphonic ringtones and other fun and useful features, these phones drain your battery much more quickly than less feature-rich phones. If you take lots of photos during the day, make sure to keep track of your battery level and recharge it frequently. You may also keep an extra battery with you.

Hope these tips would be useful. Happy shooting!

Music cellphones

After the camera phones, it is the music phones that are capturing the consumers fantasy in India.

Music lifts the soul to ecstasy, pure enjoyment. Perhaps the only idea of entertainment cherished by all classes and masses alike. In toady's fast life, we hardly find time to sit in a corner and enjoy listening to old classics on a gramophone!! or attend a music show in the evening. Many of us spend quarter of our life travelling. So one idea that really enthralls us is having 'music on the move'. You will find a rikshawala listening to film songs on a radio in his basket, people enjoying music while traveling to their office in charted buses. Most of the people have stereo systems in their cars and don't forget the college student next door carrying a walkman or an iPod.

The important considerations while buying such phones are:

1. Music Player - MP3, AAC, MPEG4, RA, MIDI ( MP3 is most popular )
2. FM Radio
3. Check the headset for voice clarity and comfort
4. Memory capacity ( 50 MB - 512 MB) - more the memory, more the number of songs you can store.
5. External memory slot to be able to add extra memory later
6. Software to transfer music files between your PC & cellphone
7. Some cellphones have memories that are recognised as removable drives when connected to a PC. So transfering files becomes simple drag and drop function where no software is required.
8. music quick launch key
9. Can you play songs in offline mode ie. some handsets can play music without even inserting SIM card.
10. Bluetooth for cell to cell transfer.
So get the one you want. Break the boredom and entertain yourself while on the move !!
